Gum arabic is an important constituent of many special purpose inks.
It is also a component in water colours and quick drying inks due to its suspending and binding properties.

Used in the production of paints as a binding medium for marbling colours. Historically gum arabic was used to increase the viscosity of ink, to make it flow well and to suspend the coloring matter.
